Water Supply Planning

Water supply planning for public and private clients centered on questions related to the reliability of existing supplies in average and drought years, and analyzing sufficiency of supply to meet growth projections.

Planning efforts include:

  • Reviewing the flexibility and redundancy of supplies to address drought conditions, interruptions to delivery systems (e.g., mechanical failure, water contamination), etc.
  • Identifying needs and helping with modifications to system operations and the acquisition of supplies to meet unmet demands by municipal, industrial, and agricultural water users in the context of their water demand, infrastructure, and financing mechanisms.

Representative Projects:

  • Bowles Reservoir water supply and historical use investigation
  • Cache la Poudre River investigation of available water rights and operations / use of changed water rights for water supply company
  • Middle Park Water Conservancy District water availability studies for water rights diligence
  • South Suburban Park and Recreation District water supply analyses
  • The Oil Shale Company (TOSCO, now owned by ConocoPhillips) and Encana Oil and Gas water availability studies in White River and Upper Colorado River basins related to energy development-water use connection
  • Tri-State Generation and Transmission Association investigation of available water rights in South Platte River and Arkansas River basins
  • Water supply / demand analyses and investigation into additional water supplies for agricultural land managed for bird habitat
  • Winter Park Ski Resort water demand / supply analyses
